Subjects Description

Data Structures

This course introduces the students fundamentals of data structures and takes them forward to software design along with the course on Algorithms.

It details how the choice of data structures impacts the performance of programs for given software application.

This is a precursor to DBMS and Operating Systems. A lab course is associated with it to strengthen the concepts.

Object Oriented Programming

This introductory Java programming course covers essential skills and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, such as classes, objects, abstraction, composition, inheritance, polymorphism, and interfaces.

Students learn to implement these principles in Java, exploring Java library classes for problem-solving. The course also includes Java collection classes, along with topics like exception handling, JDBC for database connectivity, and multi-threading.

It’s a hands-on, programming-intensive course that prepares students for more advanced challenges. A lab component is included to reinforce concepts.

XML and Applications

This course provides an introduction to XML, a versatile markup language widely used in software development. XML is the global standard for data and document delivery on the Web, known for its open, extensible, and self-describing nature.

Students will learn about the structure of an XML document, how to use a Document Type Definition (DTD) or schema for validation, and the role of extensible style language (XSL) in transforming XML documents into HTML/XHTML.

The course covers various XML technologies for tasks like validation, navigation, transformation, linking, querying, description, and messaging of data. A lab course is included for hands-on experience.

Automata Theory

Automata theory explores abstract computational devices with applications in various areas, such as hardware modeling, lexical analysis, machine design, syntax analysis, parser generation, program verification, and text editing.

The course delves into formal languages, context-free grammar, and the study of deterministic finite automata (DFA), non-deterministic finite automata (NFA), and pushdown automata (PDA).

These foundational concepts in computer science enhance students’ skills in understanding mathematical models. A basic knowledge of mathematics is a prerequisite, and a lab course is included to reinforce the learned concepts.

Technical Writing

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Technical Writing. It focuses on equipping students with the skills to analyze communication situations comprehensively, considering the needs, audiences, and users.

Students will learn to gather, interpret, and document information logically, efficiently, and ethically. The course aims to cultivate professional work habits, teamwork skills, and the ability to design clear, persuasive, and accessible documents.

Emphasis is placed on selecting the appropriate format for information presentation, organizing content based on reader-centric principles, using graphics effectively, and developing an effective and clear writing style.
